About the event

Poetry Writing and Performance Workshop:

Unleashing Your Creativity and Reclaiming Your Voice

Rhonda Sekhmet Ra is a revolutionary spoken word artist & poet born and raised in the city of Wilmington, North Carolina. Rhonda began to write poetry as a child and has written continuously ever since. In 2014, she began to share her spoken word at open mics in Miami, Florida and gave her first featured spoken word performance in 2015. Since then, she has been invited to perform at a number of venues across the east coast including those in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In August of 2023, Rhonda released her first spoken word album entitled "The Awakening" which includes 11 tracks of spoken word over music written on her journey through racial consciousness. Her poetry is primarily focused on promoting a message of truth, justice, empowerment and freedom.

Rhonda has been facilitating poetry writing workshops for almost four years. She is the creator of a virtual poetry workshop entitled "Let Your Soul Write" in which she encourages participants to remove barriers to writing poetry and unleash their creativity in an unapologetic way. Rhonda uses her background in mental health & healing as well as her poetic experience to help individuals use poetry not only for creative enhancement but as a tool of coping and expression.

This workshop is tailored for beginners to advanced writers.
